What is
sakura cup?

Japan’s very first International Indoor Skydiving Competition, where the world’s most Talented Teams get together!

FlyStation Japan opened the doors to indoor skydiving to the Japanese public in April of last year with the goal of introducing the activity as not just a leisure experience but as a developed and world recognized sport. Over the past decade, indoor skydiving competitions have been booming, with private competition like BodyFlight Bedford World Challenge appearing in the late 2000’s, and Dynamic Flying leading the charge in creating not only a new, indoor specific discipline called dynamic, but also new formats and model of competition since 2012, which have been used later on by the FAI.

FlyStation, in collaboration with Dynamic Flying, will be hosting the Sakura Cup Invitational to join the fiery spirit of the sport! It is a unique, invitational only event, where the best of the best have been selected to battle it off in what is shaping up to be one of the most incredible competition to date. A showcase of skills, a reunion of all the driving forces of the discipline, watch Japan take the first steps into sports history!

What is
DYNAMIC?

The discipline that will be featured at the Sakura Cup is called Dynamic. It has been created in 2012 and has been growing fast around the world. Flown in 3D, using all the space of the tunnel, it’s a discipline that combines technical and artistic merits. Teams of 4 flyers (D4W) or 2 flyers (D2W) will be battling in a tournament set up on two different types of round : Speed Round and Free Round.

During the speed round, teams have to complete a series of compulsory patterns randomly drawn before the competition begins. It’s a race in 3 dimensions : the time starts when the first flyers crosses the door frame, and stops when the last flyers flies out. No artistic consideration here, the fastest team wins the round !

The Free round, as its name suggests, is entirely up to the team to create ! In 90 seconds in D4W and 60 seconds in D2W, the teams need to convince the judges of their technical and artistic superiority. Teams can fly to music, invent new moves. It’s the most visual of the rounds.
